“Contain,” “include,” “involve,” and “consist of” are all words that are used to describe the relationship between different elements or components of a whole.

  • Contain” is used to indicate that something has another thing or things within it. For example, “This box contains a book” means that there is a book inside the box.
  • “Include” is used to indicate that something is one of many things or parts that make up a whole. For example, “The menu includes a salad” means that a salad is one of the dishes that are available on the menu.
  • “Involve” is used to indicate that something requires or includes a particular action or activity. For example, “The job involves traveling” means that the job requires the person to travel as a part of their duties.
  • “Consist of” is used to indicate that something is made up of other things. For example, “A soccer team consists of eleven players” means that the soccer team is made up of eleven players.
