What does Simple Future describe?

85

The Simple Future is a verb tense used to describe an action that will take place in the future. It is formed using the auxiliary verb “will” or “shall” + the base form of the main verb.

The Simple Future can be used to describe predictions, facts, intentions and promises.

The weather forecast says it will rain tomorrow

It will be the 1st of May tomorrow

I like this dress. I will buy it

We shall leave early in the morning

It can also be used in constructions such as I’ll be home soon which means I will be home soon.

Simple future is also used in conditional sentence type 2:

If he studies, he will pass the exam

It’s important to note that the modal auxiliary will is not always used to describe an action that will happen in the future. In some cases, it is used to express a willingness or ability to do something.
